nuviun's Senior Content Editor provides a quick trip around the Digital Health Landscape in this weekly wrap-up with her Digital Health Rounds.

As a nurse-who’s-an-editor-for-a-health-related-publication, I couldn’t help but use some healthcare lingo in naming this weekly column of mine.

Just as we “round” on patients in healthcare to check on current status, and write up our findings in “progress notes” so I round on various sectors in our Digital Health Landscape—providing short notes and links to a variety of stories that caught my eye each week. This certainly isn’t meant to be comprehensive, but just a quick trip across the landscape to help top off our week with you.

This week…I’m so excited about our new website, and I hope you are, too! Please browse around, create a profile for yourself, and become a member of our digital health industry network. We'd love for you to join the global conversation and post an article! We really appreciate you, and want your feedback. Please let us know what you think, and how we can continue to improve to meet your needs.

So kick back and relax with me—feel free to skip around, explore further, or linger on something of interest. As with all of our content, we invite you to jump into the conversation and comment at will!

We’re so happy that you’re here—and look forward to Connecting Great Minds™ and making a difference in the world together.

Big Data

A big data visionary in clinical practice—who recognized the importance of it 30 years ago:

Why Collecting Data is Imperative for Surgeons Today: A Talk with Dr. David Fisher

Ehealth

In the U.S., it’s a women’s magazine…but in the U.K., it’s every parent’s essential tool—and it’s about to go digital:

The little red (e)book

EHR/EMR

It carries a lot of weight, and the results are in:

Best in KLAS and Category Leaders 2014

Gamification

“Serious games” sounds like an oxymoron, but the nomenclature reflects the potential for great effect:

Market Driven Patient Portal: Gamification and Serious Games

Health and Wellness Apps

As the release date approaches, the hype will grow:

One more clever way Apple will get you to buy an Apple Watch

Health IT

I fear we’ll increasingly see these kinds of headlines related to health IT, as the healthcare industry seems ill equipped:

Anthem Hacking Points to Security Vulnerability of Health Care Industry

Interoperability

“Interoperability is the technical ‘glue’ that makes possible an emerging open science infrastructure”—and as big data continues to emerge as the hub of the digital health wheel, we’ll see the need for interoperability with the spokes of parallel health initiatives increasingly essential:

COAR Interoperability Roadmap published

Medical Imaging

Italian imaging on Cloud 9…

Agfa HealthCare Takes Imaging and Reporting Data into the Cloud, for Regional Italian Hospital Azienda Ospedaliera di Perugia

mHealth

Embracing the patient and the family—as brain injury always impacts both:

The future is now: how new technologies are helping stroke patients get better

Personal Genomics

Another title I couldn’t resist:

Are 23andMe Customers Suckers or Empowered Consumers?

Quantified Self

Oh, the fabric of life:

BeBop Sensors brings sensor fabric from musical origins into the “quantified self”

Sensors and Wearables

Oh, the tough fabric of life:

Wearable sensors toughen up for sports

Telehealth/Telemedicine/Connected Health

“Henderson’s biggest fear is that Mississippi ends up with multiple models and proprietary systems that don’t connect with each other, as when different train tracks used a variety of gauges at the dawn of the railroad era.” I fear this too, and wrote about it—concerned that the waft of money and proprietary interests will continue to trump patient needs.

Telehealth Command Center Connects Doctors in Jackson, Miss., with Patients Statewide

Editor’s Pick from the nuviun ranks in Health 2.0 Social Media in Healthcare:

I get to read fantastic stuff all week as I edit, and I loved Jenn Lonzer’s powerful post about the success of Bell Canada’s campaign to benefit mental health:

Wildly Successful #Bell Let’s Talk Day Proves the Power of Social Media for Health Communication

Thanks for joining me! Please stop in again next Friday for Digital Health Rounds—and don’t forget to create a profile and become a member of our nuviun digital health industry network!
